The staff at Bare Roots are not only committed to running a responsible business, but we are committed to living responsibly. We think that if we are going to "talk the talk" we had better "walk the walk". We are and will continue to make choices that will lessen our carbon footprint in our own lives. Please visit our blog and share your eco choices with us and we will be sure to share the things we learn along the way with you.
Really, the best thing that we can do for the planet is to use less of it. At the heart of the environmental crisis is our consumer society. Here are a few questions you can ask before you buy: Do I really need this? Is there another product that would do the same thing but more sustainably? Where was this made and under what circumstances? Are the materials used to make this renewable and have they been harvested in a sustainable manner?

Organic ingredients are profoundly effective, exhilarating to your senses, extremely less toxic to the environment and advantageous to your overall health.
You're only as healthy as what you put in, and on, your body. Organic products work in harmony with our bodies.
Organic ingredients nurture our skin and hair with wholesome nutrients that our body chemistry is familiar with.
We need to consider the effects of everything we do, from driving our car to turning on a light switch. And, since we all use basic body and home care products, going organic can become an easy way to keep our earth - and ourselves - in better working order.
REUSE
Because we live in a "disposable society," we are encouraged to buy a "new & improved" item even if the one we have can be repaired. When we buy, we should buy items that are durable, and we should maintain them and have them repaired when necessary. If we do this, many things can not only last a lifetime, but can be passed along from generation to generation.
RECYCLE
Rather than throwing an item out when you can't make use of it, have it recycled. And, while recycling is not perfect - it requires energy and the process of changing something into something else often produces by-products - it is better than sending goods to the landfill or having them incinerated.
Find out what types of materials can be recycled in your area. Clean and sort the materials before putting them out on the curb as often collectors will not pick up recycling that is mixed or contains non-recyclables.
Request a non-toxic environment in your school. Examine your school's cleaning supplies, lawn care, supplies and pain. Ask your environmental group to come up with a list of environmental guidelines for the school.
Try companion planting, which combines plants that attract pests with plants that pests avoid.
